POLYON®: The perfect product for overseeding

As most of the country begins to wind down their golf season on their properties, the Desert Southwest begins to ramp up their operations for the annual practice of fall overseeding during the months of September and October.
The overseed practice has evolved over the years from an almost complete removal of the bermudagrass base by severe mowing, and verticutting practices until the canopy is opened up enough for the Ryegrass seed to establish contact with the soil. Today that same process is achieved with a chemical burn of the turf with a variety of different chemicals. This leads to less mowing and verticutting and, in turn, less green waste generated.
There are many tools available for todays’ golf course superintendent as they are preparing their courses for overseed but none are more valuable than a controlled-release fertilizer technology like POLYON®. The technology is backed by years of research and for decades it has been the market leader throughout the Southwest.
One of the key factors in the POLYON® success story is the reactive layers technology. This technology slowly feeds the plant by diffusion. This process is controlled and regulated by soil temperature which is key among high-efficiency products.
Harrell’s offers an extensive variety of blended POLYON® products for the golf industry. Harrell’s also offers a wide variety of SGN sizes to meet the needs of the superintendent. The SGN sizes range from 100 SGN (Micro) to 225 SGN (Standard). In addition, with the Harrell’s POLYGRAPH®, your Harrell's sales representative can create an accurate schedule of what amount of product will be released on the course by a combination of historical weather data and geographic location of the golf course property.

One of the common practices in the Desert Southwest during the overseed is to apply 3 lbs/N before January 1st. This practice ensures that the ryegrass can tiller and develop a strong stand typically before the first frost event occurs. There is not a better way to achieve that goal of 3 lbs/N than an application of a controlled-release fertilizer and we’ve proven for years that POLYON® is the best delivery system for that nitrogen.
POLYON® 41-0-0, with its mini sized SGN (150) and the trademark green color, is the ideal product to assist in the superintendent in achieving the goal of applying 3 lbs./N to the newly seeded turf in a timely and efficient manner. This type of POLYON® application provides the golf course with a consistent base of fertilizer to incrementally feed the new ryegrass without a flush of growth. If your golf course is prepared to go the distance when overseeding the turf, there is not better tool in the tool belt for the golf course superintendent than the controlled-release technology of POLYON®.
