Welcome to March of 2020.  As we quickly enter the Spring season, many turf managers have several key applications on their mind, Pre-emergent and Fertility applications. Your Trifecta for Spring Success is dialed in with predictable results, season-long nutrition and preemergent weed and insect controls. 

As many have witnessed in the Southeast and Mid-West, it’s been a rather mild and wet Winter.  With these accelerated conditions, many managers are seeing horticultural signs of life on their properties.  

With the above parameters met, Bob McLean, Superintendent at Indian Hills Country Club in Bowling Green, KY, trusted Harrell’s for his Spring pre-emergent and fertilizer application.  Working with Bob McLean,  Indian Hills chose to apply Ronstar (Restricted Use Pesticide) impregnated on POLYON® controlled-release fertilizer  for his 2020 application.  Lee Simpson, the Harrell’s territory manager for KY, formulated a 33-1-8 POLYON® fertilizer/Ronstar (Restricted Use Pesticide) blend for Bob.  This unique blend is predicted to last Bob roughly 20 weeks – his growing season in Bowling Green, delivering 3 lbs. AI Ronstar (Restricted Use Pesticide) and 1.6 lbs. of N.  

Utilizing the new PolyGraph, Lee and Bob were able to find the right percentages of POLYON® 42 & 43 fertilizer.  With the two different coating thickness’s, Lee was able to build Bob and Indian Hills Country Club the specific fertilizer that would deliver the desired results for Bob and the club.

With the unique and advanced features of POLYON® fertilizer, this blend fit perfectly into the delivery mechanism for Bob’s pre-emerge application.  Bob was able to combine 2 applications into 1 and achieve the agronomic results he and his club desire.  The POLYON® fertilizer applied at Indian Hills is slated to start releasing nutrition right around the first week of April, which on average is the beginning stages of breaking bermudagrass dormancy for this area.  With POLYON® fertilizer designed to release based on temperature, this timing fits perfectly into Bob’s agronomic plan. As the plant seeks to acquire nutrition, the POLYON® fertilizer is providing a consistent steady dose of N during this critical stage.
