Trey Whitehurst

Your Partners in the Field: Get to Know Harrell's Specialty Agriculture Team

Trey Whitehurst is the central Florida territory manager for our specialty agriculture team. Trey is referred to as “the OG” since he has been with Harrell’s for almost 10 years as an absolute pillar in the specialty agriculture space.

Trey grew up in the fertilizer and crop protection business, in the Florida Everglades agricultural area, on the southern shore of Lake Okeechobee. His father was the general manager of both Wedgeworth’s Inc. and Florida Favorite Fertilizer Inc. “Calling on customers with him as a teenager motivated me to choose the same career path in assisting farmers growing their crops,” Trey said about his earliest career.

He later attended the University of Florida and earned his B.S. in agricultural economics, and now, 27 years later, he serves customers from central Florida up to the panhandle in citrus, green bean, pepper, sweet corn, sugarcane, and watermelon production.

“I am excited about the opportunities in the near future for the specialty agriculture team’s growth, and I’m looking forward to many more years with Harrell’s,” said Trey Whitehurst.

Dr. Tom Reed

Dr. Tom Reed brings value to our specialty agriculture team as both a sales Director and as Harrell’s specialty agriculture director of agronomy. Tom has been working at Harrell’s for 5+ years, bringing over 15 years of experience in the agricultural industry, crop protection, and nutrition across a variety of specialty and row crops.

Tom holds a Ph.D. from the University of Florida (Horticultural Sciences), an M.S. from the University of Georgia (Crop and Soil Sciences), and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin (Biology and Environmental Studies). As a director of agronomy, he is responsible for proprietary product development and providing technical support to Specialty Agriculture sales representatives and customers, as well as having the role of Sales Director.

In his role, he serves the entire country, though current specialty agriculture sales are predominantly in Florida.

“It’s great to be a part of Harrell’s, and the specialty agriculture group has a lot of potential for growth looking ahead. We’re very excited for the future,” said Dr. Tom Reed.

Eric Trevino has been at Harrell’s for nearly 14 years, starting his career at the Harrell’s soil plant in 2011. Eric began with a background in the nursery market, servicing our Horticulture customers for years, but he was asked to join the specialty agriculture team more recently to expand the market overall.

Eric mainly serves customers in southwest Florida, bringing his extensive knowledge to the table and helping customers achieve success in their farms.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to serve my current customers and new folks I have yet to meet,” Eric Trevino.

Will EdwardsYour Partners in the Field: Get to Know Harrell's Specialty Agriculture Team

Will Edwards serves the specialty agriculture team as a sales and territory manager, and January 2026 will mark 4 years that Will has been at Harrell’s. Will’s experience started in the grain industry, farming row-crops in Nebraska, and then continued in the grain business around Illinois and Indiana.

Before coming to Harrell’s, Will was a commodity merchandiser/territory origination buyer for one of the largest food ingredient providers in the world (ADM). There, he originated corn, soybeans, white corn, wheat, non-GMO soybeans, and milo.

Will mainly serves customers in Florida, but he does have a few customers in the surrounding southwest states. Namely, in Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina.

“Working for the Harrell family and company is by far the best experience and employer I’ve ever had. Nothing compares, and I’m very grateful to be here,” said Will Edwards.

POLYON® Controlled-Release Fertilizer in Specialty Agriculture

POLYON® fertilizer benefits farmers for many distinct reasons, and some that vary depending on the crop/needs of the particular land of the farmer. For example, the POLYON blends that Trey Whitehurst sells are most beneficial as they maximize their yields with 30% less nutrients, their equipment operators are taking fewer trips across the fields, and improving their carbon footprint. They can focus on improving their irrigation and crop protection efficiency by not having to worry about nutrient management through drip irrigation.

POLYON controlled-release fertilizer (CRF) technology ensures a consistent and controlled release of nutrients, increasing efficiencies with optimal plant uptake. The result is boosted yields, increased crop quality, and limited environmental impact, all while allowing for more efficient use of producer time and resources.

POYLON serves ag customers best by being the most reliable and consistent CRF product on the market. We can cater to each crop’s growing window and tweak our custom blends to the specific wants/needs of the grower,” said Will Edwards.
