Before Harrell’s, I would commonly use the term POLYON® as a slang term, kind of like you use the term Dawn or Kleenex® when talking about soap and tissues, POLYON® just meant slow-release fertilizer. But that wasn't and isn't the case because POLYON® fertilizer is not a slow-release fertilizer, but a controlled-release fertilizer, meaning the customer can precisely monitor the release of nutrients in their application. But between you, me and the fencepost, I thought all controlled-release fertilizers were just about the same for the longest time when it came to lawn care.

The POLYON® Difference

We were moving 30%-50% blends and we were expecting it would lose color in 6 weeks. “Why would you ever put out something that would last more than 6 weeks, you got another round coming up don’t you?” was the common thought while using other controlled release fertilizers because, after all, they get the job done.

However, POLYON® fertilizer, those little green "magic rocks" were different. When I came on board here, I was told by a couple of sales guys, that if you go to Harrell’s you are going to sell POLYON® fertilizer. Sure thing, I’ll blend up my 30%-50% “slow release” skus and go to bat, that's what I knew worked and had been my go-to for years, why would I change anything that already worked fine?

Trying Something New

I was stubborn in my ways and reluctant to try anything different. However, this feeling changed once I saw the results POLYON® fertilizer could produce and how a small change could truly change grass, with even fewer applications.

All that being said, I promised myself I would trust the process and try it a different way for a year firsthand. Just shy of a year, the ones who use the most POLYON® fertilizer, simply look different than everyone else using other controlled-release fertilizers on the market. I have driven through neighborhoods, and you can point out the yards that get the longer POLYON® fertilizer apps.

This Stuff is Different!

Customers are calling me in amazement saying, "our turf looks the best it’s ever looked, I don’t know how you came up with this program, but you are a genius!" Every time I receive feedback like this, I think to myself, thank goodness I listened to others, used the tools I was given, and trusted both when building our programs. This stuff really is different!
