As I sit in my office on this abnormally cold winter morning going through e-mails and looking over Twitter, I started reflecting about what I really love about our industry.  In an ever competitive and sometimes cut-throat world, we have countless examples of people helping people.  There isn’t a day that goes by where you don’t read about superintendents helping one another for a big tournament or event.  If a golf course has a piece of equipment break down, if a neighboring course has a piece of equipment or labor to lend out, if a superintendent has a question regarding products for a solution on their course, etc., there is always someone there to help.  There are usually several fellow superintendents that chime in and help out!  It is very refreshing to see this and makes us all feel great about the environment that we work in every day.

We at Harrell’s embody this same mantra.  We are a large distribution company, but the reason why we do business each day is for PEOPLE.  We have 341 employee-owners and 123 sales professionals that go to work each day to serve you.  Harrell’s is not a part of a large agricultural conglomerate, in a buying group, or backed by some venture capitalist.  We are one company that solely lives by the turf & ornamental industry.  So, if our customers aren’t successful we are not either.  We strive to have the best customer service, be the best in the industry for education, bring cutting-edge new products that we develop as well as those our industry partners bring to market, we have an un-matched salesforce with years of knowledge and experience, and the list goes on.

Mientras me siento en mi oficina en esta mañana de invierno anormalmente fría revisando correos electrónicos y revisando Twitter, comencé a reflexionar sobre lo que realmente amo de nuestra industria. En un mundo siempre competitivo y, a veces, despiadado, tenemos innumerables ejemplos de personas que ayudan a las personas. No hay un día en el que no se lea sobre los superintendentes que se ayudan entre sí para un gran torneo o evento. Si un campo de golf tiene una pieza de equipo descompuesta, si un campo cercano tiene una pieza de equipo o mano de obra para prestar, si un superintendente tiene una pregunta sobre productos para una solución en su curso, etc., siempre hay alguien allí para ayudar. ¡Generalmente hay varios compañeros superintendentes que intervienen y ayudan! Es muy refrescante ver esto y nos hace sentir muy bien con el ambiente en el que trabajamos todos los días.
