Scott Renfro is the newest edition to our west coast Horticulture team, taking the lead as Territory Manager, mainly serving the state of Oregon. Scott will primarily consult with owners and plant managers in the annual, herbaceous and woody ornamental growing facilities. He has been servicing the Oregon nursery industry for 12 years now, specializing in plant physiology and nutrition, with specific expertise in plant pathology and entomology.
Scott has spent his whole career studying and interpreting soil and tissue samples. He has worked hard to understand the relationship(s) between plant nutrition and subsequent growth.
Scott acquired his master's degree in Horticulture from the University of Arkansas, which eventually led to him meeting his now-wife, a fourth-generation bare root fruit tree producer in Hillsboro, Oregon. Scott is a problem solver. Where some shy away from or groan at the sight of problems with new plant species, he gets excited, even going as far as saying it's the best part of his job as a plant health consultant.
Working in the horticulture market, the lineup of products he will sell includes our full line of Harrell's ProtectMAX® products (i.e. fungicides, insecticides, and herbicides), along with our industry-leading POLYON® controlled-release fertilizer technology.
Scott is a loyal resident of Oregon, taking note of not only its overall beauty but all the different aspects that make it an "outdoor playground," as he put it. Fertile soil for farmers, sand dunes for ATV rides, rivers and oceans for fishing, smith rock for climbing, wildlife for hunting, and music festivals for dancing. He and his family alike love Oregon and will always be the first to recommend a trip over to Oregon to anyone who asks.
Providing such a wide array of protection and nutritional products, Scott is a "one-stop-shop" for all of his customers’ Horticulture needs.
When asked about what sets Oregon nursery growers apart from other areas in the western United States, Scott had this to say, "Oregon nursery growers are concentrated geographically in the Willamette Valley, so travel times between facilities are negligible. Even though each customer is something of a competitor to the other, they each share a common goal of helping each other during unfortunate/difficult times. They all purchase or share inventory among each other to fill orders and take care of their customers because, after all, we are all in this together."
Oregon sits in a unique position climate-wise, being cooler and wetter than other regions of the west coast, making it even more important to understand the effects of fertilizer nutrient release and insect/disease pressure during different seasons of the year.
With Scott on board, Harrell's is here to serve customers now and in the future in Oregon. "Being the largest distributor for some of the best chemical producers in the greenhouse/nursery industry, supply is available, and pricing is competitive," Scott said.
In addition to our ProtectMAX® line of products, Harrell's is also the owner and manufacturer of POLYON® fertilizer, which allows customers to custom blend the specific nutrients they need into each green bb of fertilizer. Giving them longevity, predictability, and steady nutrients for weeks to months on end. Pulling the two together, Harrell's also can sparge or coat POLYON® fertilizer granules with fungicides or insecticides, reducing labor expenses for you, the customer.
