Holiday Reflections on 2021

The holiday season presents us all with a time of excitement, reflection and renewed energy for the coming year as we celebrate the birth of Christ.
If you have small children, you understand the level of excitement for Christmas. My wife has always had a child-like excitement for Christmas and that love has infected my children. They read the Christmas story each night, search for the Elf each morning, dream of Santa’s gifts, debate which underwear they are getting from their grandmother and carefully plan their activities for Christmas morning. A child’s exuberance for Christmas is refreshing as we navigate the adult world.
2021 certainly brought its fair share of challenges but has also been filled with much adventure. I started a new job with Harrell’s, moved my family back to Florida, my kids started a new school and we all learned to make new friends. This year has seemed to go by in the blink of an eye. Professionally, I became part of a great team in Florida. The challenges that supply chain presented forced me to develop quickly and our team to grow closer. We were able to adapt and overcome adversity to achieve success.
My first blog post for Harrell’s focused on the book Extreme Ownership. I’m grateful that many of those principles can be seen throughout my team and helped lead to our collective success in 2021. Personally, I’m blessed to have a supportive family who quickly adapted to a new place and established a new “home.”
Reflecting on 2021, many of us will remember the challenges we faced, but what are some of the successes and opportunities for growth that those challenges created for you? I would encourage you to focus on these things especially on the tail end of the holiday season.
As we turn the page on 2021, new adventures await. If anything like the past two years, open-mindedness, patience, constant communication, and adaptability will be critical to delivering success and “enjoying-the-ride” in 2022.
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and have a very Happy New Year!
