This is a short version of what Kelly Hughes experienced a few weeks ago in Haiti. There were twelve people on his team that went from several churches in the Orangeburg, S.C. area.
Kelly Hughes who drives a spreader truck for us in Norway just got back from a mission trip to Haiti where the group he went with installed seven water purification systems. They actually planned this trip before the cholera outbreak happened so God’s timing is again perfect.
Kelly told us that he had never seen situations before like what he saw as the people were always asking for handouts or anything you would give them even after all of that aid went in after the quake. It seems that there are still a lot of supplies in the port that have not been distributed as many of those responsible are trying to sell what was sent in for their own good.
There are no trees to be found as everything has been cut down for any and all purposes. Everywhere this group went they were asked for anything they had and Kelly said they even fought over cardboard that they would discard.
The encampment where they stayed was protected by armed guards so they could sleep peacefully.
There is still much to do over there it seems. Kelly did say he would like to go back over if he has another chance. There is much more to his trip and given the time we will get more information out.
Please be in prayer for this country and its people as they continue to struggle to restore things back to some type of normalcy.
