Take Advantage of EOP and Extinguish Those Pests!

7/2/2013 - By Harrell's

With EOP (Early Order Program) season quickly approaching growers should be starting to think about how they can improve their 2013 IPM programs from 2012. Yes…I know what you’re thinking, “We aren’t even through this growing season yet!” But the reality is, growers still have those problems they encountered this growing season fresh in their minds right now.

I encourage each of you to spend a little extra time with your growers over the next month or two writing these problems down. Also write down what they are currently using to control the pest. Harrell’s tech services can work with this information and the grower to build stronger spray programs, spray programs that work with the grower’s practices and budget.

The other advantage to working on this information now is that it allows growers to take advantage of EOP programs. Operations that take advantage of EOP programs and order most or all of their chemicals during this timeframe usually end up saving money and can make more flexible payments based on extended term conditions. So what pestered you in 2012? Here are some that I got many phone calls about this spring and summer:

If you are thinking about adding a new chemistry into you spray rotation it is always a good idea to trial them across your specific varieties. In the section below entitled Recommended Reads there is an article published in NMPro entitled “Taking the Test”. The article was written by Kathie Kalmowitz of BASF and offers good insight on how to setup and implement pesticide trials. Your Harrells rep can also help with this process!
