Ed Quinn started mowing lawns out of the back of his Ford Mustang in 1984. Now almost 40 years later, E.A. Quinn Landscape Contracting has amassed a staff of 80 plus employees that provide landscaping and horticulture services throughout Southern New England, with a focus in Connecticut.

Based in Glastonbury CT, E.A. Quinn operates four divisions: Commercial Maintenance, Commercial Install, Design Build and Residential Maintenance. An aspect of the maintenance services that E.A. Quinn offers to its Commercial and Residential accounts, is a unique fertilization program that requires just three applications of POLYON® controlled-release fertilizer on a seasonal basis.

The general approach calls for POLYON® applications in the months of April, July, and September. With Scott Pinney, E.A. Quinn’s Landscape Maintenance Manager stating that “we take pride in having our properties look great, while taking into account the environment and sustainability”. Pinney adds, “I have seen the results, with controlled growth and color throughout the growing season. Many companies in our industry apply five to seven applications of fertilizer compared to our three. Mike goes above and beyond his sales representative role, while even visiting a property if I can’t diagnose a problem properly."

Clients have noticed the difference as well in their property’s responsiveness to the POLYON® applications. In 2020 E.A. Quinn was awarded the Landscape contract for The State Capitol, which had very specific maintenance parameters, including minimal herbicides and no use of insecticides. Additionally, The State Capital requested a fertilizer with a pre-emergent in the spring, a more balanced fertilization in July, and another application of fertilizer with pre-emergent in the fall. With the experience and knowledge that E.A. Quinn had with the POLYON® product we knew we could exceed The State Capital’s expectations.

Pinney goes on to say; “The lawn came out better than I have ever seen it, and we received many accolades on how well we performed at The State Capitol this year.”

Pinney understands that a nutrition-based program with a controlled-release fertilizer at its foundation, will deliver a better, healthier turf when compared to the up-and-down results you might see from a quick-release liquid fertilizer alone. He explains, “Everyone knows a balanced feeding is a healthier feeding.”

Pinney also knows that there is significant value in the product beyond the price tag, contending, “It is more per application, but we do not have to apply as many applications.” In the end, the monetary investment is the same, but the results are far superior.
