With the first hurricane of the season upon us, it’s not too late to make sure you have yourself and your turf prepared. Hurricane Elsa looks like she will be affecting much of Florida and the Southeast throughout most of next week.

When protecting yourselves or your homes, most of us remember the critical supplies; like water, flashlights and first aid. What about other items like personal records, pet records, and insurance documents, to name a few? To make sure you’re prepared for hurricane season, you can use this checklist from the National Hurricane Center. 

With regards to your turf, tropical systems can bring excessive rainfall and overcast skies for extended periods of time. Under these conditions, your turf will be exposed to many environmental stressors and increased disease pressure. Here is a short list of products to help water push through greens profiles, as well as preventative and curative disease applications:

The active ingredient of Segway, cyazofamid, stops spores from germinating, preventatively inhibiting all stages of Pythium fungal development.
	Heritage® TL  Heritage consistently provides exceptional disease control (soilborne and foliar diseases) for extended intervals and improves overall turf quality.

About Clay Breazeale
Clay Breazeale was raised in Jacksonville, Florida and attended the University of Florida. He graduated in 2005 with a BS in Turfgrass Science. Clay interned at Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville; Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY, when they hosted the 2003 PGA Championship; and the Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham, AL. After graduation he worked as the assistant superintendent at The Country Club of Birmingham. Clay then returned to Jacksonville where he spent the next 11 years working through the ranks at TPC Sawgrass, host of THE PLAYERS. In 2017 Clay started with Bayer as Area Sales Manager of the Carolinas where he supported over 85 distributor sales representatives and grew the Bayer footprint in the Carolinas.
