Football Preseason Checklist

Football season is, for all intents and purposes, upon us, and while fall isn’t as busy as spring in terms of the number of events, when football season is going well everything seems to be going well.  I’ve compiled a checklist of items that can slip through the cracks, or at least they did at some point during my time as a sports field manager.

1. Pull your field stencils out of storage now and inspect them.  Rodents love stadiums due to the amount of food available to them there, and while there they need a place to call home.  A family of mice once made my midfield stencil home and rendered it useless over the off season.  If you inspect it now you’ll save considerable money by ordering the replacement more than two weeks prior to the season, or so I hear.

2. Change the oil and repack the pumps on your airless sprayers.  A leaking seal halfway through your first Gameday painting is a real bummer.

3. If you’re done with topdressing for the year, sharpen your reels.  Few things are as harmful to turf as a poorly cutting mower.  Also make sure those reels are still razor sharp after overseeding.  Spreading 500lbs of ryegrass seed on a Saturday only to pull half of it out of the ground the first time you mow it is also a real bummer, or at least so I hear.

4. Try to get a practice schedule from your coaching staff, and try to make sure they inform you of any changes to it.  Learning a scrimmage has been rescheduled for the evening you’ve planned a solid tine aerification while sitting on the tractor in the middle of said aerification is ALSO a real bummer, or at least so I hear.

More than anything have a plan and a backup plan and probably a backup for that backup plan.  Try to enjoy the next few weeks.  There will likely be thousands of people coming to your office in the next few months, and they sure do get in the way of your goal of providing safe, aesthetically pleasing playing surfaces.

 Lista de Pre Temporada de Futbol Americano

La época de futbol Americano es, para toda los propósitos intentos, está ya aquí, y mientras el otoño no es tan ocupado como lo es la primavera en términos de números de eventos, cuando la época de futbol americano va bien tal parece que todo va bien. He compilado una lista de detalles que se pueden sobrepasar, o por lo menos fueron sobrepasados en alguna ocasión como un gerente de campo de deporte. 

1. Saque su plantilla de campo de su almacén ahora e inspeccióneselo.  Los ratones le encanta los estadios dados a la cantidad de alimentos disponible, y mientras están ahí necesitan un lugar que llamar su hogar.  Una familia de ratones una vez hicieron de mis plantillas de campo su hogar y las rindieron inútil fuera de temporada del futbol americano.  Si lo inspecciona ahora ahorrar una significante cantidad de dinero en ordenar un reemplazo en más de dos semanas antes de la temporada, es lo que oigo.
2. Cambien el aceite y re empaqué la pompa en sus regadores de aire.  Un sello con lique a mediaste de su primera pintura de juego es malísimo.
3. Si ha terminado con el recebo del ano, afile sus carretes.  No hay nada más dañino al césped que un cortacésped boto.  También asegúrese que los carretes están bien afilado después de sobre sembrar.  Esparcimiento de 500 lb de semilla ryegrass en un sábado solo saque mitad de terreno la primer vez que lo corte es también malísimo, o por lo menos eso he oído.  Trate de adaptar un horario de su personal de entrenadores, y asegúrese que les informen de cualquier cambio.  Ser informado que ha habido un cambio en el horario de una práctica para esa noche que usted ha planificado una sólida aerificación mientras esta en el tractor en medio de tal aerificación es TAMBIEN una situación malísima, o por lo menos esto es lo que he oído.

Más que nada tenga un plan y otro plan y probablemente un tercer plan para ese plan.  Trate de disfrutar las próximas semanas.  Habrá lo más seguro miles de personas llegando a su oficina en los próximos meses, y esto de seguro estorbara sus metas de proveer seguridad, estéticamente agradando superficie de juego.
