Recent weather patterns in the southeast have been ideal for disease development on Bermudagrass sports fields. Last week, for the first time in my 15 years in this industry, I saw Pythium on Bermudagrass at a 5/8” height of cut.

Unfortunately the absence of mycelium, and rarity of Pythium on bermudagrass at this height of cut caused the sports turf manager and I to both misidentified it as leaf spot, and treated it accordingly with a contact fungicide.

Four days later the disease had spread, and the turf manager was greeted with the following:

It was treated for Pythium and is recovering nicely now, but be diligent and explore all your options if your turf isn’t up to par.

Pitio en césped Bermuda en Campos de Deporte

El  patrón del clima en el sureste ha sido ideal para el desarrollo de enfermedades de césped de  bermuda.  La semana pasada, por primer vez en 15 años en esta industria, vi Pitio en césped Bermuda a  5/8” altura cortada.

Desafortunadamente la ausencia de micelio y rareza de Pitio en césped Bermuda cortada a esta altura causo la errónea identificación por el gerente de césped de deporte y yo de mancha foliar y la tratamos en consecuencia con un fungicida de contacto.

Cuatro días más tarde la enfermedad se había esparcido, y el gerente de césped se enfrentó con esto:

Fue tratada para Pitio y se está recuperando muy bien, pero sea diligente y explore todas su opciones si su césped no esta como debe.
