Four Quarters Vol. 1

8/28/2015

The Dugout Blog is going to begin a weekly what we learned article.  It’s going to be called Four Quarters.  We decided on Four Quarters for the Dugout Blog because we studied agriculture in college and can’t imagine writing a weekly recap that has nine items.  If we could write that much it would be called 9 Innings and would make more sense, but just go with us here.

1st Quarter:

NBC Nightly News did a piece last week on the safety of in-filled artificial turf.  If you haven’t seen it, follow the link here, and check it out.  Their piece isn’t very scientific, but hey, at one point the world’s best scientists thought the world was flat, and it will be interesting to see if this begins to turn public perception against artificial turf.

2nd Quarter:

The NBC Nightly News piece caused the STMA to issue a statement offering their public relations firm to help draft a response to any questions your user groups might have.  While that’s nice it concerns me that they haven’t, at least to my knowledge, offered this public relations firm when grass fields come under scrutiny from uniformed TV announcers and others.

3rd Quarter:

The Magnolia State is pretty good at football with both Mississippi and Mississippi State getting big SEC West Division wins.  Even better they played those games on two immaculate fields at MSU and Texas A&M.  I maintain the college game is better than the one they play on Sundays if for no other reason than they play a larger percentage of them on grass!

4th Quarter:

Stay Tuned for the more information on the Field Experts TweetUp 2015.  The Dugout Blog will be updating you, in the coming weeks, on the who, what, when and where of what was our favorite event at last year’s STMA Conference.

OT:

Speaking of Saturdays v. Sundays and football, how in the heck do you have a tie in an NFL game?!?  The NCAA overtime is weird, but at least there’s a winner.
