POLYON Means Customer Success
Turfgrass professionals have relied on POLYON® Controlled-Release Fertilizer, with its trademarked GREEN color, for nearly 20 years. They have discovered POLYON’s clear-cut economic, agronomic and environmental benefits. They’ve shared their experiences with us, and we’re pleased to post their comments online for you.
Read below to see how turf professionals like you achieved healthy lawns and great fertilization results while saving time and money and reducing their impact on the environment.
After switching to POLYON in the fall of 2008, we have reduced the pounds of fertilizer we apply to our clients’ lawns by 42%. We now apply 30% to 40% less nitrogen to get the same great-looking turf. With POLYON, we’ve also significantly reduced the possibility of leaching and runoff, so we can protect the Chesapeake Bay. And, we’ve reduced our carbon footprint by eliminating one to two rounds of applications, which means our fleet trucks drive 25% fewer miles.

Product Research Proves It Works
POLYON® Controlled-Release Fertilizer was put to the test in 2009 by the Davey Institute and the University of Florida. Two studies were conducted to evaluate color, quality and clipping yields on three turfgrass species in Ohio and Florida. The objective was to compare total calendar rates of nitrogen delivered by a multitude of extended-release technologies.
The overall performance in color and quality ratings and clipping yields compared to the multiple applications and more nitrogen applied of the other technologies provide POLYON more value-added benefits than the competition. Some of the POLYON treatments applied up to 30% less total nitrogen in the season, demonstrating increased efficiency of the nutrients and minimizing potential for excess nutrient loss.
Cool-Season Kentucky Bluegrass Results
One application of POLYON on cool-season Kentucky bluegrass performed as good as or better than other technologies that were applied more than once during the same time period. A POLYON three-month formula applied at 2 lbs. N/1,000 square feet finished the season receiving ratings above an 8.0 on the quality scale (1-10, 10 is Excellent). In comparison, an industry standard SCU (sulfur-coated urea) received 25% more nitrogen for the season and only received higher ratings following the three applications applied.
St. Augustinegrass and 419 Bermudagrass Results
St. Augustinegrass in southern Florida responded well to both six-month and 12-month formulas. One application of the 12-month formula applied 30% less annual nitrogen than urea, which was applied six times during the season at 1 lb. N/1,000 square feet. The highest quality rating for the entire study was given to the 12-month formula at five weeks after initial application of all fertilizer treatments. POLYON at one application also received the highest color ratings on 10 out of the 15 sampling dates leading up to the end of 2009.
The 419 Bermuda grass saw similar visual and growth responses to POLYON as the St. Augustinegrass. Both six-month and 12-month formulas incorporating POLYON controlled-release technology provided for reduced applications during the season with the overall benefits of saving time and money.
